My First CPSDA Conference

This past week I was fortunate enough to attend my first ever CPSDA conference. For those of you that don't know what that is, CPSDA stands for Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietetics Association.

"The Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) represents the vast majority of advanced practice registered dietitians in the United States who work full-time with athletes in colleges, professional sports, Olympic training centers, the U.S. Military and in law enforcement. CPSDA’s member-driven national not-for-profit organization speaks with one voice on behalf of America’s leading sports dietitians and is founded on the fundamental “food first” principle that “whole foods are the best fuel,” and that athletic programs operating at every level of competition will best serve their athletes when employing the full-time services of a sports dietitian."

Basically the coolest organization ever for a sports nutrition nerd like myself. This organization is comprised of the leaders in sports dietetics and has been one of the biggest advocates for sports dietitians. They are dedicated to providing continuing education programs to keep sports dietitians up to date in the rapidly-evolving food trends and performance practices among athletes.

As a young professional in this industry I don't personally know too many other sports dietitians. Even though I was somewhat apprehensive, I ended up attending this conference by myself and it was one of the best choices I have ever made. I was immediately welcomed by so many friendly and inviting people that I completely forgot how nervous I was. Instead of feeling like I was surrounded by strangers I felt a sense of community and belonging.

I was able to meet so many colleagues and make connections that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to make. This three day conference was full of education, social events, and of course amazing food. I will definitely be attending next years conference and cannot wait to reconnect with this group of professionals. I would not have been able to attend this conference without the support of my boss at the Sport and Speed Institute, Coach Kavanaugh. I am fortunate that I get to work at a facility where my profession is valued and respected.
